Target Launch Vehicle (TLV) from Vandenberg AFB - Shot from Dublin, Ca. - 23 Sep 2008 : Shot with a Nikon D300 and a Nikkor 10.5mm f2.8 fisheye lens. I used the D300's self contained interval timer shooting capability to make a series of 10 second exposures, f3.2 ISO 640. In retrospect, I should have used a different lens, but I had no idea which way the TLV would be traveling and wanted to make sure I got the visible portion of the flight in the frame.

Delta 2 Rocket Launch from VAFB(Lompoc,CA) Shot from Dublin, Ca. - 20 June 2008 : Shot with a Nikon D300 and a Nikon D200, a series of 10 second exposures. The D300 had a 300mm telephoto focused to infinity and was set to f4.5, ISO 800. The D200 had a 80-200mm f2.8 lens focused to infinity, set at 80mm, f2.8 and ISO 640. In retrospect, I should have tried to focus each camera when the Delta came up over the hill. However, I had no idea other than somewhere between south and southeast to expect to first see the Delta. So, I focused each lens to infinity, started interval shooting about 00:44, then did a quick aim and lockdown of the tripod head on each camera as soon as it came into view. Future night launches will be easier to spot as the first glimpse was almost exactly at the base of the communications tower on the closest hill.

Comet 17P/Holmes Anomaly from Old Ranch Road 16 Nov 2007 : While doing 6 second time exposures of the comet, one of the shots, DSC_7086, displayed an out of family brightness. Given the camera settings were the same as the previous and following shots, I can only speculate some type of flare from the comet.

The Aurigid Meteor Shower and Venus Rises Over Dublin - 01 Sept 2007 : While I saw 30-40 Aurigid meteors, I only capured 3 on film and those were the least impressive of the lot. But, it was an impressive show, several meteors leaving contrails that lingered a few seconds. Almost as impressive was the sight of Venus rising with the breaking of dawn east of the city.
